FIFA president Joseph S. Blatter severely criticizes the phenomenon of corruption that has plagued Moldovan football in recent years. The head of the world football governing body talked about this during his meetings on Thursday, September 20, with Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti and Prime Minister Vlad Filat, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“FIFA fights against fixed matches, which have a negative impact on football. Unfortunately, the phenomenon has spread in many countries”, stated Sepp Blatter.
In turn, Moldovan officials promised they would take all the necessary measures to stop this phenomenon.
President Nicolae Timofti told the FIFA official of the government’s plans to build a new national stadium. Next year, the negotiations regarding the location of the future arena of 30,000-35,000 places will be finalized.
“FIFA is willing to support your country with feasibility studies and other documentary materials”, stated Blatter.
On the occasion of his visit in Moldova, Sepp Blatter was awarded the Order of Honor for his merits in developing football.
The football official also had a meeting with His Eminence Vladimir, Metropolitan of Chisinau and of the Whole of Moldova. The FIFA president congratulated him on his 60th anniversary and awarded him the FIFA president’s Medal. In turn, the Metropolitan offered Blatter an icon with “The Nativity of the Mother of God”.
This was Joseph Blatter’s third visit to Moldova after 2002 and 2009.
