The Festival of Ethnic Communities is taking place in Moldova’s villages and towns. The 15th event of the kind entitled “Unity through diversity” allows each national minority to show their culture, national cuisine and costumes, IPN reports.

In some of the country’s districts, the festival began on September 12. The Russians, Ukrainians, Romanies, Armenians and Jews showcase their talents and the respect for the traditions of their nation.

Today, September 19, the Festival of Ethnic Communities is held in Balti, Anenii Noi, Rascani, and Straseni. There are staged performances that involve ethic-cultural communities, contests for the most original artistic program typical of the ethnic group, best reciter and best singer-soloist, and exhibitions of handicrafts and traditional dishes.

In Orhei, Ocnita and Taraclia, the event takes place on September 20. The same day the festival ends in Balti. In Glodeni and Edinet, the national minorities will celebrate on September 27. The inhabitants of Soroca and Sangerei staged the event on September 12 and 13.

The Festival of Ethnic Communities aims to promote the customs and traditions of the coexisting ethnic groups and is an occasion for discussing the problems faced by these.

This year the festival in Chisinau will not be held owing to the protests mounted in the Great National Assembly Square.
