The female MPs have launched a nationwide campaign titled “Obstetric violence is violence too”. This way, Parliament joins in the UN campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence”. In solidarity with the survivors of gender-based violence, an orange flag was raised on the Parliament Building given that orange symbolizes a future free from violence, IPN reports.

PAS MP Doina Gherman made reference to the recent cases of death of women immediately after giving birth. “It is unacceptable for women to die in 2022 after giving birth. It is also unacceptable for the women to be abused, humiliated or neglected when they go for a gynecologic exam,” said the MP.

In the assembly hall, there was shown a video made during the nationwide campaign to inform and sensitize to obstetric and gynecological violence. According to Doina Gherman, this is a form of violence that is often ignored, but it affects too many women in our country.

“We will travel through the country, will meet with women from regions, will make all the necessary approaches to find solutions. Each woman in our country has the right to appropriate medical assistance, care and support during pregnancy, delivery and post-partum. We call on all the women and girls in the Republic of Moldova not to tolerate any form of violence and to denounce such cases,” stated the MP.

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is observed on November 25. This year, the campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence”.is held under the theme “UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls”.
