Zimbru Chisinau on May 16 celebrates 70 years of the foundation, IPN reports.

In the course of its history, the club was known under a series of names such as Dinamo, Burevestnic, Moldova, Avantul and Nistru. During 12 years, the team from Chisinau had played in the Superior League of the Soviet football, achieving its best result at the very debut, in 1956 – the sixth place among 12 teams. Vladimir Tsincler is the only player chosen among the best 33 footballers of the championship. In 1974, Nistru beat Dinamo Kiev and Spartak Moscow, but didn’t manage to keep its place in the Superior League, where it was present last in 1982.

In 1991, the club was renamed Zimbru. This is the only team that took part in all the editions of the National Division. It became champion eight times and won Moldova’s Cup six times. Iurie Miterev is the best scorer of the team in its history, with 129 goals. In the European cups, Zimbru eliminated such teams as Dinamo Tbilisi, Goteborg and CSKA Sofia. At home, the “yellow-greens” drew with Shakhtar Donetsk, PSV Eindhoven and Tottenham.

Today, Zimbru has the last chance to get a place in the European cups and in the future season. The team trained by Stefan Stoica plays in the semifinals of Moldova’s Cup in Balti against Zaria.
