FC Costuleni opened the Copa del Sol competition held in Spain’s Murcia with a defeat. The team trained by Lilian Popescu was defeated by Norway’s champion Stromsgodset by 0-4 on January 27, IPN reports.
Costuleni could have opened the score at the beginning of the game, but the ball hit the bar. However, the Norwegians showed their superiority, managing to score by two goals in every half.
The lineup of Costuleni included goalkeeper Anatol Cebotari and halfback Eugen Gorceac, who played for Academia and, respectively, Speranta in the first half of the championship. The team from Ungheni this year has signed Ukrainian player Sandro Sugladze and Petru Hvorosteanov, who last year played for the Belarusian team Slavia. But the ‘lions’ lost Dan Pasla, who signed with FC Tiraspol.
At Copa del Sol, Costuleni is to meet the Romanian leader Astra and the multiple champion of Norway Rosenborg. “We have a second chance in this championship, but will fight for victory in every match,” Lilian Popescu said before leaving for Spain.
FC Costuleni finished fourth the first part of the season in the National Division, with 35 points. It was two points away from the podium.
