A man took his children hostage in Mereni village of Anenii Noi district. Being under the influence of alcohol, he came to the home of a relative of his and, behaving aggressively towards the family members, threatened his former wife that he would kill their minor children if she does not return to him.
Mariana Bețivu, press officer of the General Police Inspectorate, has told IPN that the police was alerted by the man’s relative at about 6am on November 5. A number of police officers were on the scene immediately. A psychologist is also there, trying to persuade the man to release the children.
Sources of the Anenii Noi Police Inspectorate have told IPN that the man had been tried earlier.
Contacted by IPN for details, the mayor of Mereni Valentin Vieru said he was informed by locals that a number of police teams went to a particular address. He intends to go to the scene right away.
