Farmers from the south of the country, who are dissatisfied with the measures adopted by the authorities, continue protesting, insisting on the demands they submitted to the decision-makers regarding the support for agriculture as a result of the calamities of the last three years. The farmers warn that they will extend the demonstrations and will picket the Presidential Palace and the Parliament Building on Thursday. This will be the third day of protests after the latest heavy rain, IPN reports.

The farmers are protesting peacefully, standing by the side of the road, but the demonstrations will expand, said farmer Sergiu Stefanco. He noted that groups of demonstrators from the districts of Cantemir, Leova, Vulcănești, Taraclia, Comrat and Ceadâr-Lunga protested on Wednesday and on Thursday they will be joined in by farmers from Drochia, Glodeni and Hîncești districts.

Sergiu Stefanco reiterated that farmers want to discuss with decision-makers of a number of state institutions, including the President’s Office, the Parliament, the Government, the National Bank of Moldova and the Ministry of Agriculture. However, the farmers will go to the Ministry only after the administration is changed there. In fact, the farmers recently demanded to start the legal procedure for the dismissal of Minister Vladimir Bolea.

At the same time, the farmers ask the President of the country to return to Parliament the special law for farmers so that it is amended based on the demands formulated by the Farmers’ Force Association. The members of the Association are dissatisfied with the fact that none of their proposals was taken into account by the authorities, who drafted the regulations on the distribution of the 100 million lei in aid and the special law in connection with this year’s drought.
