The farmers demand to immediately organize a meeting with Prime Minister Dorin Recean after the Board of the association “Force of Farmers” in a meeting ascertained with concern that none of the demands formulated in the June protests was fulfilled. If they are not heard and their demands are further ignored, the farmers will resume protests next week, IPN reports.

“The organization’s administration body received multiple reports about the disastrous situation in the agricultural sector owing to the very low prices for the new crops, exorbitant production costs and enormous pressure exerted by creditors on farmers. There were ascertained cases when nonbank lending organizations dispossessed farmers of agricultural machinery for current loans,” the association said in a statement.

The farmers said the responsible authorities show crass irresponsibility as they demonstratively neglect the interests of micro-, small- and medium-sized agricultural producers and avoid fulfilling the own promises. The draft regulations on the provision of subsidies for wheat and barley and on the distribution of Romanian crude oil haven’t been adopted after a period of over 40 days. No decision was taken about the moratorium on the payment of debts for micro-, small- and medium-sized farmers by temporarily banning the forced execution of farmers’ obligations and not allowing launching insolvency procedures.

To avoid a financial catastrophe in the agricultural sector and farmers’ protests, the “Force of Farmers” repeatedly asks to satisfy the aforementioned demands and to also create special customs corridors for the export of Moldovan grain and oil crops in summer-autumn.
