The people working in agriculture and the processing industry celebrate their professional day on the fourth Sunday of November. On this occasion, a concert for them was given at the National Place “Nicolae Sulac” on the eve. The event involved the Premier. In his welcoming speech, Iurie Leanca said farming is a strategic area for strengthening the country’s economy and, despite all the difficulties, the year 2014 ends well, IPN reports.

“It was an unprecedentedly difficult year. Besides the bans imposed by Russia, there was also the conflict in Ukraine. This war impeded Moldova’s external trade and made us adjust our priorities,” stated Iurie Leanca. According to him, the farmers were affected by this conflict, but the Government identified financial resources to support them. Additional financial resources of 160 million lei were allocated for compensating the farmers for their losses.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov thanked the farmers for the work they do daily to ensure the country’s food security. Despite the experienced difficulties, this year the farmers had larger wheat, sugar beet and sunflower yields. The growth in agriculture this year is 5%.

The minister also thanked the farmers for having the courage to invest in the agroindustrial sector, where investments rose to over 6 billion lei. He mentioned the three reforms pursued by the government, namely the creation of the Agency for Payments and Intervention in Agriculture, the reform in the food safety sector and the reform in the wine industry. “We did what we could to follow the path to the EU. We must go on as only this way will we have access to financing, a market with half a billion consumers and technologies,” stated Vasile Bumacov.

The festivity dedicated to framers was attended by ministers, lawmakers and representatives of the diplomatic corps.
