Minister of Justice Fadei Nagachevski said that it is not possible to annul the extradition of Veaceslav Platon as he was convicted in Moldova and is to serve his sentence here. Moreover, he has Moldovan nationality as well, IPN reports.

The statement was made following reports that the annulment of the extradition of convicted businessman Veaceslav Platon and his transfer to Ukraine could be the goal of the inspections carried out by the Prosecutor General’s Office at the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases and the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.

The minister noted that Veaceslav Platon, as ex-Premier Vlad Filat, is trying to make use of the compensatory instrument for having his sentence reduced. “The cases are pending in court. Let’s admit that the compensatory instrument is applied, but his time in jail will not be reduced to the extent to which he could be allowed to leave prison,” Fadei Nagachevski stated in the program “Black box” on TV8 channel.

He also said after the U.S. Department of State made the former Democratic leader Vladimir Plahotniuc ineligible for visas to the United States, he ordered to assess Moldova’s legal assistance agreements with other states. He also determined with which countries such agreements do not exist so that negotiations could be started and particular reciprocity rules could be agreed. In this connection, the minister noted there are particular communication problems with different states as regards extradition.
