While some leaders of extraparliamentary parties vehemently oppose the introduction of the mixed-member electoral system, others accept it, but on particular conditions. Differing opinions on the issue were stated in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

Andrei Nastase, chairman of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”, reiterated the party’s position that the electoral system should not be changed. “I would like to meet with Candu, and with Plahotniuc, and with Filip, to discuss the problems faced by society. The replacement of the electoral system is not the biggest problem now. I would like to discuss an appropriate agenda with them, not the false agenda that they are promoting. They want the mixed-member system to be introduced so as to avoid criminal responsibility for the committed wrongdoings,” stated Nastase.

Secretary of the Social Democratic Party Sergiu Coropceanu said he is against the mixed-member system. “In the current conditions, we cannot support the mixed-member electoral system. This is a joint project of the Democratic Party and the Party of Socialists,” he stated.

Chairwoman of the National Liberal Party Vitalia Pavlichenko stated she supports the mixed-member system, but on particular conditions. “We earlier pleaded for the mixed-member electoral system, but the current bill should be improved and the election threshold, for example, should be diminished,” she said.

Vasile Costiuc, head of the Party “Democracy at Home”, also said that the mixed-member system should be introduced on particular conditions. “Our party was influenced by colleagues from Romania and we pleaded for such a system. But in the current circumstances, I think we could support this system on particular conditions,” he stated.
