Experts expressed different opinions as to the accusations made by MP Veaceslav Ionita against the Liberal-Democratic leader Vlad Filat, concerning the stealing of 120 million lei from Banca de Economii. The opinions were stated in the program “Place for dialogue” on the public station “Radio Moldova”, IPN reports.

Political analyst Nicolae Chirtoaca, who heads the party “New Force”, said that Ionita’s statements have a political undertone and are related to the election campaign. “Ionita has launched the election campaign by discrediting the party that he represents. It’s known that the PLDM is dependent on its leader Vlad Filat and the decapitation of the party could lead to the radical change of the ratio of forces in the election campaign,” he explained.

The analyst believes that influent persons are behind Ionita, who aim to denigrate the parties of the pro-European coalition. “It’s not a secret that Ionita has ties with the controversial businessman Veaceslav Platon, who is known as the black raider of the CIS. Ionita, as the head of the Parliament’s commission on economy, budget and finance, has repeatedly tried to promote the dubious businesses of Platon. The fact that a third force – former Democratic MP Vlad Plahotniuc - was involved in this is more serious. It’s clear that they aim to reduce the number of votes that these parties can gain,” stated Nicolae Chirtoaca.

On the pother hand, political analyst Valentin Dolganiuc said this is not an electoral, but a vital subject, while Ionita is a pawn removed from the game by such persons as Ilan Shor, Vlad Filat, and Vlad Plahotniuc. The law enforcement bodies should investigate this case, but it is rather improbable that the investigation will produce results. “The law enforcement bodies knew about the laundering of US$18 billion through Moldincombank,” he stated.

Economic analyst Alexandru Fala said Ionita’s statements are political in character. “I don’t want to believe it, but an IMF report shows that Banca de Economii has large assets in Russia,” he noted.

Veaceslav Ionita accused publicly Vlad Filat of being involved in the stealing of at least 120 million lei from Banca de Economii of Moldova over the last three months. The leader of the PLDM replied that Veaceslav Ionita is openly promoting the interests of a controversial businessman involved in the laundering of over €18 billion. In a communiqué, the PLDM says that on August 19 they withdrew the political support enjoyed by Ionita because he economically sabotages Moldova.
