The visit by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin to Tiraspol and Chisinau, scheduled for May 9, represents defiance of the Moldovan diplomatic service, consider Moldovan experts. They developed the issue in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
Political commentator Alexandru Cauia considers that this visit, which, according to the protocol, was to be organized a month ago, is a slap to the diplomatic service. However, it is for the first time that the Moldovan diplomatic service reacted and summoned the Russian ambassador to provide explanations.
Jurist Pavel Midrigan considers that the Moldovan diplomatic service must continue to react and do as it is supposed to. “The Russian Deputy Prime Minister must be met at the airport, as all the other officials of his rank, and provided with transport. Bilateral meetings should be organized so that he understands that he is obliged to obey the protocol norms,” he stated.
The former representative of Chisinau to the Joint Control Commission Ion Leahu believes the Russian official reached an agreement with the Communist Party in connection with the events planned for May 9. “He will come to provoke and make threats. He will disseminate fear and will then comfort those who are nostalgic and will promise them that everything will be fine,” he said.
The participants in the program were unanimous in the opinion that the day of May 9 should become a day of conciliation. Journalist Ion Terguta said the peoples of Europe already forgot the humiliation suffered in World War II, while in Moldova the day of May 9 is used by political forces to promote their interests. “There are almost no veterans of that war that ended 69 years ago. A large part of those who say they are veterans of World War II and take to the streets with provoking placards are younger. They should be now aged around 90. May 9 should become a day of conciliation, not of discord and provocations,” he stated.
