The oligarchs and corruption represent the main risks that will hamper the implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU, said experts invited to the program “Politics” on TV7 channel, IPN reports.

Political analyst Nicolae Chirtoaca said the Moldovan oligarchs will not want to lose control over the state institutions and the flows of money. Therefore, they will place obstacles to the implementation of the agreement. “We need those reforms that are stipulated in this accord so as to finish the transition and modernization of Moldova. The oligarchs and the parties controlled by oligarchs are the internal obstacle and the major risk,” he stated.

Analyst Anatol Taranu, who heads the Center for Political Analysis and Consultancy “Politicon”, considers that after the accord is signed, the problem caused by the oligarchs could be diminished. “The European Union will never ask taking the oligarchs out and executing them. But it will demand clear rules so that the problem does not persist,” he stated, adding that there are also other risks. “It is an important stage for Moldova. It is a new stage. But the date of November 30 will show if the country follows further this European road. There is a multitude of internal and external factors showing that things can go wrong. I think maximum vigilance is needed in this respect.”

Corneliu Ciurea, expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul”, considers that after the signature of the Association Agreement, Moldova will face a number of disadvantages. “I think the political struggles will go on, as this oscillation between the East and the West will do,” he said.

Former Communist MP Victor Stepaniuc said that after the accord is signed, things in Moldova will not improve. “I think that no major changes will take place. I do not believe in reforms and in the fight against corruption,” he stated.
