Electoral experts said the Central Election Commission’s decision to establish two polling stations in Bender municipality and a polling station in Corjova commune, which are temporarily outside the control of the constitutional authorities of the Republic of Moldova, is a courageous decision that can set a precedent, but it is also provocative and is aimed at testing society’s reaction, IPN reports.

Experts of Promo-LEX consider the proper functioning of the three polling stations in Bender and Corjova cannot be ensured. However, if this decision is upheld, in the long run it could be in favor of the constitutional authorities and would represent a first step towards obtaining full control over this territory.

“It is a courageous decision. If the elections are held correctly and fairly there, at least on the election day, as I’m skeptical about the proper conduct of the information campaign there, and if polling stations are established there, I hope this will be a precedent and in the next local elections we will have stations also in Chițcani, Mălăiești and other localities that are not under the control and de facto jurisdiction of the constitutional authorities,” Promo-LEX expert Pavel Postică stated in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

On the other hand, WatchDog expert Valeriu Pașa said not the three stations that are to be established in Bender and Corjova, but the other stations intended for citizens from the Transnistrian region are the stake of these elections as cases of organized transportation and voter corruption can be witnessed there.

‘These three polling stations are opened only with the aim of testing the reaction of society as 90 polling stations can be opened in the next elections without observers having access to them. The 41 polling stations opened on the controlled territory are the big stake. I’m sure that this time the CEC will not approve the decision to ban the transportation of voters to polling stations. About 38,000 people voted at the stations established for the Transnistrian region in the elections of February 2019, but this time there will definitely be 60,000-70,000 voters,” stated Valeriu Pașa.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court of Justice remitted the PPPDA’s challenge to the CEC decision to establish three polling stations on the territory that is temporarily outside the control of the constitutional authorities to the Constitutional Court.
