The candidates for the post of mayor of Chisinau Zinaida Grecheanyi and Dorin Chirtoaca will compete in the second round of voting if the other parties do not field worthy candidates able to compete with the two, considers the director of the Resource Center for Human Rights (CReDO) Sergiu Ostaf. He made such statements in the program “Pahomi” on Realitatea TV channel, IPN reports.

Ostaf believes the two are not the most suitable candidates for the post of mayor of Chisinau. Speaking about the candidate of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Zinaida Grecheanyi, the CReDO director said fielding this candidate wasn’t the most intelligent move of the Socialists. “Zinaida Greceanyi can be a good accountant, but cannot be the mayor needed by Chisinau. It would have been more intelligent to put forward Dodon or Ceban, which are more prominent. Most of the people are disappointed with the government and Ceban could have attracted a part of the votes of the protesting people,” he stated.

As regards Dorin Chirtoaca, Sergiu Ostaf said he would have the chance of winning the third term in offices if he competed with Zinaida Grecheanyi in the second round of voting. “During the two terms in offices, Chirtoaca didn’t deal with a number of problems, especially the integrity of the City Hall’s employees. His supporters had great expectations of him as regards the management of the capital city. His chances are not very great. But if he goes through to the second round of voting together with the candidate of the PSRM, the supporters of the political right and of the center will vote for him against the Socialists,” he stated.

As to the candidate of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova Grigore Belostencic, Ostaf said this candidate is not very well known. “It’s regrettable that this party cannot field a candidate with weight for the Chisinau mayoralty,” he said. He also said that the Communists’ candidate Violeta Ivanov is a suitable one because she didn’t make extremist statements in public and built a positive image while heading the Ministry of Ecology.

Sergiu Ostaf considers the fact that the former Premier’s electoral bloc didn’t yet put forward a candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau is a problem. “There are a number of personalities who can outstrip the current mayor and can go through to the second round of voting. Anyway, I’m sure that this bloc has chances of winning half of the seats of municipal councilor,” he stated.
