The Embassy of France in Chisinau mounted a documentary photo exhibition in memory of Captain Conan, who served in the French Army during the First World War. The exhibit entitled “Homage to Captain Conan” was opened at the National Museum of History on the occasion of the commemoration of the start of World War I, IPN reports.

Within the event, there was also presented the novel of French writer Roger Vercel, who fought on the Eastern Front. The exhibition shows events described in this novel.

“This exhibition has two subjects. The first is the presentation of two French artists - Roger Vercel and the famous director Bertrand Tavernier, who made the film based on this novel. The second is the remembrance of a not well-known episode from the history of the French Army, which happened on the territory of the contemporary Moldova,” said France’s Ambassador in Chisinau Pascal Vagogne.

“This event is first of all dedicated to students who should know this history page, even if it was an ordeal for mankind. It is the first exhibit mounted by the Embassy of France in Moldova,” said the director general of the National Museum of History Eugen Sava.

The exhibition also presents original objects dating from World War I such as a bottle of champagne, soldier cups, swords, postcards and photo albums.

The exhibit can be visited until November 30.
