The MPs will be investigated without the preliminary consent of Parliament. A bill with relevant amendments was endorsed by the Government, IPN reports.

If the bill is passed by Parliament, the arrest, search and suing of lawmakers will become possible without the legislature’s consent. Currently, the MPs can be arrested and searched when they are caught red-handed.

Limiting the immunity was recommended by the European Union in order to increase the transparency of the lawmaking process. Now the parliamentary immunity can be withdrawn at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office, with a majority of votes.

As many as 67 votes are needed for limiting the parliamentary immunity.
