A former head of Anenii Noi district was arrested for 72 hours on Thursday on influence peddling charges. He is suspected of rigging tender contests in his own interests, IPN reports, quoting the National Anticorruption Center.
The district’s head in 2018-2019, exerting influence on inferiors, initiated public tender contests to execute building and repair works in public institutions. Pursuing a personal goal and being in a conflict of interest, the former head of Anenii Noi district favored a series of companies and businessman whose effective beneficiary he is without ensuring competition and equal and nondiscriminatory treatment towards the other participants in the tender contest.
NAC officers and anticorruption prosecutors carried out searches at the homes and offices of the involved persons. The investigation is conducted by the National Anticorruption Center.
