The Chairman of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs Elmar Brok welcomed the overcoming of the political crisis in Moldova and encouraged the Moldovan authorities to make the reforms aimed at modernizing the country durable and irreversible by strengthening the democratic institutions, combating corruption and reforming justice. He made the statements in a meeting with Moldovan Speaker Igor Corman, who is in Brussels on an official visit, IPN has learned from the Parliaments’ press service.

The two officials discussed the implementation of Moldova’s European integration reform agenda, the latest developments in the political dialogue between the EU and Moldova and the development of the Eastern Partnership as well as the latest events in the Transnistrian region.

Igor Corman pleaded for strengthening the cooperation relations at interparliamentary level. In this connection, the two officials discussed the possibility of Igor Corman taking part in a meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) after the commission on the abolition of the visa regime for Moldovans presents its recommendations.

Under the Moldova – EU Visa Liberalization Plan of Action, the fulfillment of all the conditions will enable the European Commission to submit the proposal to eliminate the short-stay visas for Moldovan citizens to the European Parliament and the Council of the EU.
