The European Heritage Days will be celebrated in Moldova on September 24-27. Minister of Culture Monica Babuc told a news conference that the European Heritage Days were instituted on the initiative of the Council of Europe in 1999. Now Europe’s cultural heritage is celebrated by over 20 million people in 50 countries, IPN reports.

Monica Babuc said that Moldova will also organize events related to the cultural heritage and it is good that the message of the European Days changes every year. In 2014, the message was “Cultural heritage and communities,” while this year it is “Industrial and technical heritage”.

The National Register of Monuments includes over 60 industrial and technical monuments such as roads, bridges, windmills and watermills and other facilities.

The European Heritage Days in Moldova will be opened at the tramway depot in Chisinau on September 24. “There will be presented the first trolleybus that ran in Chisinau and shown a movie made by an amateur, who filmed a number of monuments by a drone. The visitors will be given a guided tour,” said the minister, adding that a number of exhibitions on industrial themes will be mounted, while the EU Delegation to Moldova will stage an exhibition of paintings made by young Moldovan plastic artists.

The European Heritage Days will be closed in Ungheni, near the railway bridge. The Eiffel Bridge is a metallic bridge over the Prut between the Moldovan town Ungheni and the Romanian commune Ungheni. It was designed and built in 1876-1877 by Gustave Eiffel, who was invited to Ungheni by the Railway Directorate of Bessarabia.
