Laura Codruța Kovesi, the head of the European Prosecutor’s Office, will be paying a visit to Chisinau during July 11-14, local media sources reported, with reference to the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

During her previous one-day visit to Chisinau, when the current presidential adviser Dorin Recean served as minister of the interior, while Laura Kovesi headed the National Anticorruption Directorate of Romania, IPN transmitted her message that “there are two essential elements for judicial activity, especially in the corruption fighting sector. It goes to professionalism and dialogue between institutions”. Laura Codruţa Kövesi noted that corruption turned global, not national, being witnessed in all the states.

The same day, Kovesi chaired a roundtable meeting involving representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, the National Anticorruption Center, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office where she shared Romania’s experience in fighting corruption in public institutions. She gave a public lesson at the State University of Moldova for students of the Faculty of Law and of “Ştefan cel Mare” Police Academy, IPN reported then.

During the upcoming visit, the European official will meet with representatives of the government, including President Maia Sandu, with whom she met in Brussels in January 2021, but as the head of the European Prosecutor’s Office. Maia Sandu said then that she wants to cooperate with the European institution so as to stimulate reforms in the justice sector of the Republic of Moldova.
