The European Action Movement (MAE) will start a campaign to collect signatures in Nisporeni district meant to simplify and step up the process of re-gaining Romanian citizenship by Moldovans. The first step was made later last week, when its members collected some 250 signatures, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Nicolae Rosca, MAE's vice president, told a news conference Tuesday the initiative came from MAE members who submitted documents to re-gain the citizenship and have not obtained any response from the Romanian authorities. “The procedure of re-gaining the citizenship differs from the one of gaining it. That is why, we consider it should be simplified for Moldovan,” he said. Nicolae Rosca thinks the optimum term would be 5-6 months, not 5-6 years.
MAE's deputy president the list with signatures will be sent to the Romanian authorities, and to the EU authorities. “We'll send over a signal from citizens, not a signal from the party. It's a collective request supported by MAE, it's a political move of a party,” Nicolae Rosca specified.
Ion Bouros, a member of the steady bureau of the party and the president of the Nisporeni branch, says, on July 20, at a meeting in Balauresti village, most of the people expressed their wish to simplify the procedure of re-gaining the citizenship.
“Especially the youths are very interested, saying so they would feel themselves surer and would have a better future, if they gained the Romanian citizenship,” Ion Bouros said. In these conditions, the MAE members will continue the signature-collecting campaign in Nisporeni. “We'll go from door to door and we'll collect signatures from the ones willing to re-gain the Romanian citizenship, because it's a natural right of the Basarabians,” Ion Bouros said.
Nicolae Rosca has said most probably the campaign will expand over other areas, and the party will make the announcements in due terms.
