Hundreds of people came to the Great National Assembly Square in the afternoon of May 9 to listen to the most famous orchestras of the country. The event, organized on the occasion of Europe Day, began yet with the observance of a minute’s silence in memory of those killed in World War II, IPN reports.

The performance was started by the orchestra of the Border Police and Carabineer Troops Department of the Ministry of the Interior, which played the national anthem and the anthem of the European Union. Afterward, the orchestra played the waltz “My sweet and tender beast” of Master Eugen Doga. Later, dancers of the Academy of Plastic Arts staged a number of Romanian round dances in the central square of Chisinau.

On May 9, when it is also marked Victory Day, concerts in the Great National Assembly Square will be held only to celebrate Europe Day. In accordance with an order made by Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, the central square has been rented for the May 9 festivities for a period of 100 years.
