The European Union Parliament today adopted a resolution urging the European Commission to initiate EU accession negotiations with Moldova to the European Union. According to Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, the resolution is a recognition of Moldova’s substantial progress in implementing the nine recommendations of the European Commission.

“I welcome today’s decision of the European Parliament approving the resolution regarding the start of negotiations for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union, a strong sign of support for the Republic of Moldova and for the European path we have chosen”, said Nicu Popescu, Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.

According to him, the resolution is a recognition of the substantial progress in the implementation of the nine recommendations of the European Commission since the candidate country status was obtained. “With the achievement of these important advances, we count on the support of the member states of the European Union in order to obtain a favorable decision during the European Council meeting in December, which will allow the accession negotiations to begin”, the deputy prime minister said.
