The European Union and the Republic of Moldova have launched the high-level dialogue on transport. The first round of discussions in this format will take place in Brussels on February 19, IPN reports.

European Commissioner for Transport Adina Valean said that the launch of the high-level dialogue means a new chapter in the cooperation of the European Union with Moldova in the field of transport and is an important one for Moldova’s European path, but also for the connectivity of the European Union in the East.

“The war in the neighboring country for Moldova has meant bottlenecks in the supply chains, closure of the airspace, closed airports, ports working at overcapacity, pressure on roads and huge queues at border crossing points. This war showed how vulnerable the transport networks in Moldova, Ukraine are and that we need to work harder, more decisively and, most importantly, together with the European Union to be prepared for such challenges. Precisely for this reason, the launch today of the high-level dialogue between the European Union and Moldova is a decisive step in this regard,” said Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova Andrei Spînu.

The minister noted that today’s event confirms once again that Moldova is moving with firm steps towards the EU, and the transport sector is a priority. The dialogue will cover two important negotiation chapters: transport and the trans-European networks. The official also pointed out some of the priorities with which Moldova embarks on the high-level dialogue, such as the opening of an office of the European Transport Community in Chisinau, completion of the railway reform, fulfillment of the agreement on the Common Aviation Area, implementation of the legislation in the field of internal and community marine traffic.
