EU could decide on facilitating visa regime for Moldovans

Prime Minister of Finland, Matti Vanhanen stated that in the European Council’s meeting scheduled for December 19, where Finland holds chairmanship, a decision will be approved on facilitating the visa regime for Moldovan citizens. According to the Moldovan Government press service, cited by Info-Prim Neo, the Finnish official made this statement during a meeting with the Moldovan PM Vasile Tarlev, who paid a work visit to Helsinki. Matti Vanhanen also stated that, during the same session, he will insist on reaching a consensus in what concerns promoting the EU enlargement policy and expressed his hope that this issue would be solved till the end of the year. Referring to the Moldovan Government’s decision to annul visas for the EU member states citizens, the head of the Moldovan Cabinet solicited the Finland’s help for opening a unique consulate of the EU in Chisinau which would issue visas for Moldovan citizens free of charge. Vasile Tarlev welcomed the fact that the Finnish company “Nokia” is interested in launching business in Moldova. The PMs believe that the visit of Vasile Tarlev to Helsinki will contribute to the increase in the trade balance between the two countries, emphasizing upon the necessity of collaboration in the energy field.
