The Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Peter Michalko said a stage was reached when the Eastern Partnership delivered many results and a new perspective should be opened up. In this connection, the EU recently made public a document titled “The Eastern Partnership: New Policy Objectives Beyond 2020”. In a video interview for IPN, the ambassador said that it is a policy centering on five objectives for the future, aimed at reinforcing resilience.
Resilience should be strengthened as an overriding policy framework through five policy objectives: a partnership that creates, a partnership that protects, a partnership that greens, a partnership that connects and a partner hop that empowers. Peter Michalko said the five objectives for the future should be achieved together, by the European Union and the Republic of Moldova, by the European Union and its Eastern partners.
“Together for resilient, sustainable and integrated economies”. This formula already responds to many expectations that are related to the current situation. “Together for accountable institutions, the rule of law and security”, ”Together towards environmental and climate resilience”, “Together for a resilient digital transformation” and “Together for resilient, fair and inclusive societies”. This is I think a clear perspective showing where we want to be together the next years and what will be our common perspective that will bring us closer – the European Union and the Republic of Moldova,” stated the ambassador.
The European official underlined that through these objectives, Moldova’s economy will have access to greater development, investments for growth, investments that will create new possibilities in new sectors that will be connected to the EU market, including with possibilities of exporting or producing. This means more jobs, higher salaries, etc. Also, the achievement of these objectives will enable to further improve the functionality of institutions, the capacities to offer better services for the people. An example is the provision of support to the healthcare system as this will be very necessary.
The Head of the EU Delegation noted it comes to great opportunities in a number of sectors that will generate improvements. The EU can offer assistance, while the Republic of Moldova can be a solid partner. It also comes to support for society and Moldova’s people have potential to cope with the risks that come also together with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Peter Michalko expressed his support, respect and gratitude to the representatives of civil society who are active and mobilized in support of those who need assistance in the period: “They launched activities to support those are self isolating, launched campaigns to collect funds to help the healthcare system and the doctors who are in the front line today”.
