If the extent of the financial damage caused to the Republic of Moldova by the presence of the Russian troops on the left side of the Nistru is gauged, this would be an advantage in the Moldovan-Russian dialogue. At the same time, it is rather improbable that Moldova will get money from the Russian Federation for this. Such opinions were stated in the program “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

Political analyst Anatol Taranu said the initiative put forward by the Speaker of Parliament worsens even more the already difficult relations with the Russian Federation. This initiative should be debated very seriously. “If such a calculation is done, I’m sure that with such a document available, it is rather improbable that we will obtain money from the Russian Federation for this, but this will be a diplomatic and political argument in the dialogue with Russia and this will indisputably advantage us,” stated the analyst.

Editorialist Nicolae Negru said this idea, leaving aside the conjuncture and interests, forms part of another tendency of the current government – to head for the European Union, Romania – and this tendency is dictated by Moldova’s interests. Moldova should apply another tactic in the relations with the Russian Federation, namely that Russia occupies a part of Moldova’s territory and causes particular damage. This way the approach to the Transnistrian conflict will change and Russia could no longer be regarded as a guarantor of peace on the Nistru.

Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu proposed an initiative providing that Moldova will hire an international law firm to estimate the financial damage caused by the Russian army’s stay in Transnistria without the consent of the country’s constitutional authorities.
