The Balti Research Institute of Field Crops “Selecția” received a donation in the form of equipment for measuring soil moisture from the Technical University of Munich, IPN reports.

The equipment was installed on experimental lots for testing different varieties and hybrids of winter wheat and will be used to permanently monitor soil humidity and to determine the efficiency in the use of soil water by plants at different growth and development stages.

The equipment is designed for research purposes and enables to measure soil humidity on each layer of soil within a depth of 100 cm. The advantage of the new equipment resides in the possibility of carrying out assessments by spending a minim amount of time and resources and by avoiding the deterioration of the experimental lot.

The measurements with the new equipment started earlier this week and will cover about ten experimental lots located near the municipality of Balti.
