Sheriff has no more chances of qualifying for the 1/16 finals of the UEFA Europa League after drawing 1-1 with Anji away on November 28. Bulgarian player Ismail Isa made the Tiraspol footballers hopeful when he scored in the 52nd minute, but Moldova’s Alexandru Epureanu, who plays for Anji, tied in only six minutes, IPN reports.

Epureanu had one more occasion for scoring against his former team, but goalkeeper Tomic defended the goal. Sheriff could have left Moscow with the three points for which it struggled, but Brazilian player Jhulliam failed to score in the empty goal.

“I think it is an equitable result. We will try to win the national championship and to play better in the European cups next year,” Sheriff coach Veaceslav Rusnac said in a news conference after the match.

“We needed a positive result because we rank last in the championship of Russia,” said the halfback of Anji Alexandru Epureanu.

Anji has qualified for the European spring alongside Tottenham, which won against Tromso 2-0 and has a maximum score after five stages played. In the last match, Sheriff will play at home against Tromso on December 12.
