The parents can register their children in the first grade starting with April 1. Thus, the children who turned seven will be enrolled in the first grade mandatorily, without being subject to tests, while those who aren’t yet seven will be assessed by an expert commission, IPN reports.
According to the methodology for enrolling children in the first grade in 2016-2017, the parents must present a report on child development compiled by educators of the nursery school. This must contain information about the physical, socio-emotional and cognitive development, language and communication of the child as well as information about the child’s capacities and learning abilities at the end of the preparatory year. The parents must also present their identity card and the child’s birth certificate and medical card and two pictures of the child.
The children younger than seven can be registered at school based on an application from parents and on a decision by the expert commission that will assess the school and psychosomatic maturity of the child. The parents who want their children to study at another school than the one from their district or settlement can apply only for the places that will remain vacant after the children from the given school district are enrolled.
The children are enrolled in the first grade in two successive stages. At the first stage, between April 1 and June 21, there will be registered the children from the district school set for the education institution. At the second stage, there will be enrolled the children coming from other districts and the children who missed the first stage.
According to the Ministry of Education, about 34 800 children were projected to be enrolled in the first grade for the 2015-2016 school year, but these totaled 35 200. The parents of over 6,000 children aged between six and six years and eight months asked for a school maturity assessment for their children.
