The Ministry of Energy presented today the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan 2025-2030, recently approved by the Government. The event aimed to detail the decarbonization measures and objectives through which Moldova plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and accelerate the transition to cleaner and more affordable energy, IPN reports.

The NIECP includes measures to establish a sustainable energy system that ensures both energy security and access to renewable energy for all citizens.

Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu emphasized that nearly three-quarters of greenhouse gas emissions come from the energy sector, making their reduction a top priority for the Ministry of Energy. He stated that implementing this plan will support the country's economic development and contribute to aligning Moldova with European Union standards.

Meanwhile, Environment Minister Sergiu Lazarenko highlighted that the transition to a green economy is essential for the country. According to him, the implementation of NIECP will not only contribute to reducing emissions but will also strengthen energy security by diversifying energy supply sources and modernizing energy infrastructure.

The objectives set for 2030 include:
Achieving a 30% share of renewable energy in final energy consumption, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 88% compared to 1990 levels, measures for renovating residential buildings, promoting non-polluting transport, and diversifying energy sources.

According to authorities, these measures are crucial for fulfilling Moldova's international commitments to both the European Union and the global community. The approval of NIECP marks a significant step in combating climate change and ensuring a sustainable future for the country's citizens.

The event was attended by government officials, representatives of the European Union Delegation in Moldova, and international organizations, who congratulated the Government for its commitment to implementing the plan.

Authorities inform that the project was developed with the support of the European Union and UNDP Moldova, and its implementation will depend on the cooperation of all stakeholders, including authorities, the private sector, academia, and civil society.
