Demand for electricity the past few days has increased and the needs were satisfied through the Romanian OPCOM, where prices are higher compared to last month. In this connection, Energocom urges consumers to rationally use energy resources, IPN reports.

The company noted that during December 1-10, 2023, the total quantity purchased from imports (mainly from Romania) and from the Kuchurgan power plant was approximately 96,000 MWh, as opposed to 110,000 MWh purchased in the same period this year, up almost 15%.

Demand on the local market has been higher since the end of November, when prices at OPCOM also started to rise against the background of increased demand in Romania as well.

According to the initial forecast, for December Energocom will purchase a total of 463,000 MWh for the consumption of the right bank of the Nistru River. 170,500 MWh were bought from the Moldovan thermoelectric power plant located in the Transnistrian region. The supplies from Kuchurgan for the first 10 days of December are slightly higher than the monthly projection. Under the contract, the cost of electricity is 66 USD/MWh.

A third of the electricity needed, about 150,000 MWh, is to be purchased from the Romanian electricity and gas market operator OPCOM and from other partners of the Republic of Moldova, Romania and Ukraine.

22,300 MWh (equivalent to 30 MWh band - 24/24 hours) was bought from Romania’s Cernavoda Power Plant. The amount of electricity purchased from Nuclearelectrica in December is by 10 MWh band higher compared to the previous month. The price of electricity from Nuclearelectrica is preferential for the Republic of Moldova, capped by an emergency ordinance at 400 RON/MWh or 80 EUR/MWh.

The local district heating plants in Chisinau and Balti are expected to generate 115,400 MWh, while renewable energy installations - about 6,400 MWh.
