The employers that will develop alternative childcare services at the workplace, intended for employees’ children, could have the incurred costs covered by the state. A legislative proposal provides that these payments will be of up to 2,500 lei a month for each child under three, IPN reports.
The legislative proposal was put forward by the head of the Parliament’s commission on social protection, health and family Dan Perciun. According to him, the proposal is based on other states’ successful practices of creating family friendly workplaces.
For the purpose, a number of laws are to be amended, including the Tax Code, the law on the public social insurance system, the law on the size, method and periods for paying mandatory health insurance premiums.
The initiative is aimed at reducing the pronounced gender inequality existing on the national labor market, which in most of the cases has a negative impact on women. The measure will enable employers and employees to use women’s labor and to contribute to general economic growth with the involvement of women.
The bill was enforced by the Parliament’s commission on economy, budget and finance. It will be debated in Parliament after it is approved by the other standing commissions, including the commission on social protection, health and family.
