The Prehospital Emergency Medicine Institute in Chisinau was provided with state-of-the-art medical equipment, consumables and furniture to the value of 2 million lei. The new equipment modernizes the gynecology and blood transfusion units and the special unit for survivors of gender-based violence, IPN reports.

The units were renovated and equipped with modern operating rooms, private spaces for examination and psychological counseling, specialized blood collection chairs and rapid plasma thawing equipment.

"We are proud of this donation, which allows us to offer much more qualitative and laborious services to our female patients. The modern equipment, together with the psychological counseling room, will contribute to improving hotel and working conditions, but especially to increasing the quality of healthcare. We also aim to have a psychologist for counseling victims of violence in the staff starting January 1, 2025," said the Institute’s director Diana Manea.

"We are glad that the Emergency Medicine Institute joins the network of hospitals that provide support to victims of violence, especially rape victims. The donation includes modern equipment for the operating room, intensive care unit and other essential units, contributing to the provision of comprehensive gynecological services and the efficient management of complex gynecological emergencies," said UNFPA Moldova Deputy Representative Natalia Plugaru.

The new equipment and facilities were made possible thanks to a donation from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), financially supported by the United States of America and the European Commission's Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations. The donation is part of a broader effort to modernize the health system in the Republic of Moldova and strengthen the network of hospitals that provide integrated assistance to victims of violence and, in particular, to victims of sexual violence.
