An Emergency Admissions Unit will be constructed as part of the Chisinau-based Emergency Medicine Institute, while the Emergency Admissions Unit of the Balti Municipal Clinical Hospital will be reconstructed, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection has said.

In a response to an inquiry made by IPN Agency, the Ministry said the investments planned in the amount of €1.3 million will made through the Joint Operational Program Romania – Republic of Moldova for 2014-2020, within the Project “Improvement of the Operational Infrastructure of the Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication (SMURD) and of the Infrastructure for Training Emergency Response Personnel in the Transfrontier Area between the Republic of Moldova and Romania”. The works are to be carried out within 36 months of the signing of the financing contract, which is expected to be done this year.

The Emergency Admissions Unit of Chisinau will be a separate building on the territory of the Emergency Medicine Institute and will consist of a number of areas: examinations; resuscitation (Red Code); immediate assessment and treatment (Yellow Code); assessment and treatment of minor emergencies (Green Code), supervision (monitoring and treatment during up to 24 hours), and blue area.

Only the costs of the construction works will be covered within the project. The Emergency Medicine Institute is looking for investment opportunities for outfitting the Unit with high-performance equipment.

Currently, the Emergency Medicine Institute has an Emergency Medicine Department that is based in the former Admissions Section. More than 200 patients are daily examined there. The number of patients came to about 73,000 and annually rises by 5%.
