The Government will compensate up to 150 cubic meters of natural gas for households and up to 500 cubic meters for private non-household consumers following a spike in gas prices, as decided on Tuesday by the Emergencies Commission.

In the case of households, the Government will compensate 79.8% of the difference resulting from the price increase for the first 50 cubic meters consumed per month, and 69.5% of the difference for the next 100 cubic meters consumed, so that the price included in the bill will remain unchanged at 6.8 lei/m3 for the first 50 cubic meters and 7.9 lei/m3 for the next 100 cubic meters used.

For non-household consumers, defined as natural or legal persons who procure natural gas from natural gas suppliers for purposes other than their own domestic needs, except for public authorities and institutions, the Government will compensate the first 500 cubic meters consumed, with 100% of the difference between the regulated price for the supply of natural gas in the billing month and the respective price in December 2021, after the initial increase. The compensation procedure will be similar to that for household consumers, with bills issued by suppliers indicating separately the total amount for the services provided, the amount of compensation and the amount to be paid by each consumer after recalculation.

The support is offered retroactively, effective from January 1, and will also cover February and March.

The measure will cost 60 million lei, which will be allocated from the Government’s Intervention Fund.
