Romania follows attentively and with concern the events taking place in the Republic of Moldova and expresses its support for the efforts made by the President-elect to reestablish legality in governance, in accordance with the agenda validated by the vote given by the citizens of the Republic of Moldova on November 15. The Romanian side also calls on all the political parties to act responsibly and to give priority to the stability and democratic path, in a European spirit, of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

In a press release, the Embassy of Romania says that Romania condemns the non-transparent way, which is also contrary to the democratic practices, in which the PSRM and the For Moldova Platform, which includes the Shor Party, acted in Moldova’s Parliament on December 3, flagrantly ignoring the massive vote expressed by the citizens of the Republic of Moldova in the presidential elections of November 15, 2020.

Romania considers the swiftness with which significant amendments with a major impact on the functioning of state institutions were adopted in Parliament in Chisinau, without decisional transparency and public consultations, without obeying the valid parliamentary procedures, seriously affects the rule of law and the functioning of the democratic system in the Republic of Moldova.

According to Romania, the way in which the mentioned political forces acted is even more serious as the direct goal pursued was to limit the Presidential powers that the candidate supported by the PSRM lost emphatically and democratically in the presidential elections.

The PSRM, the For Moldova Platform, including the MPs of the Shor Party, in an atmosphere of chaos and disorder on December 3 adopted a number of bills, including the draft state budget law and the draft budgetary-fiscal policy for 2021 and also the proposal to transfer the SIS from the President’s subordination under the Parliament’s subordination.
