The signing of the agreement between the governments of the Republic of Moldova and Japan on mutual administrative assistance in the customs sector will contribute to ensuring the economic security of the signatory states and to developing the commercial relations between these. The subject was discussed by the Customs Service’s director Vitalie Vrabie and Japan’s Ambassador to Moldova Masanobu Yoshii in a meeting, IPN reports.

“The intensification of information exchanges between the two counties is fueled by the continuous growth in the volume of exports to the Japanese market. Statistics show an increase of 31% in exports to Japan in 2017, compared with 2016, to US$ 1.90bn,” it is said in a press release of the Customs Service.

“The rise in commercial exchanges entails the better securing of the operated transactions. Consequently, this document will represent one of those instruments that will help us to anticipate and prevent eventual risks of fraud,” stated Vitalie Vrabie.

The necessity of signing the agreement was also highlighted by Ambassador Masanobu Yoshii, who expressed his readiness to further support all the actions aimed at developing the customs cooperation between Moldova and Japan.

The initiation of negotiations on the draft agreement between the governments of the Republic of Moldova and Japan on mutual administrative assistance in the customs sector was approved by the Moldovan executive on April 13 this year and was transmitted to the Japanese side for examination.
