The Week of Chinese Films in Moldova has started. In the opening of the event, China’s Ambassador to Moldova Tong Mingtao called on everyone to take their relatives and come to the Odeon Center of Culture to see the most popular films made in China, IPN reports.

The diplomat said those who want to better know the culture and cinematography of China can watch ten most popular movies in the country and abroad. The bilateral relations and the communication between Moldova and China are developing, while the cultural exchanges are most frequent and this is advantageous to both of the peoples.

Tong Mingtao also said that the moviemaking art in China is over 100 years old and developed from mute films to movies with the most modern effects. Now China ranks third in the world by the volume of produced films and second by the proceeds from the sale of tickets. A number of 305 films were shown in China in 2013 alone. Earnings from the sale of tickets came to over US$3 billion.

Attending the launch of the Week of Chinese Films in Moldova, state secretary of the Ministry of Culture Andrei Chistol said that this event is an additional proof of the deepening of the cultural cooperation between the two states, with Moldova and China launching an increasing number of joint cultural projects, contributing thus to the establishment of ties between specialists from different areas.

After the launch of the event, those attending saw the film “Iron piano”, which is about the dismemberment of a family and the efforts a father can make not to lose his daughter.

The films will be screened until October 22. Entrance is free of charge.
