Eleven sportspersons will represent Moldova at Singapore Olympics

Eleven Moldovan athletes will take part in the first Youth Olympic Games that will be held in Singapore during August 14-26, 2010. Besides the 600,000 lei spent on preparing the national squad, the Ministry of Youth and Sport will offer money awards to the sportspersons who will win medals. Minister Ion Ceban met the national squad for the Olympics on July 23, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the minister, €15,000 will be awarded for an Olympic gold medal, €10,000 for a silver, and €5,000 for a bronze.
The Moldovan delegation to the Singapore Olympics includes seven coaches, a doctor and a delegation head. Both the athletes and coaches are hopeful that they will achieve good results.
Archery coach Irina Cecanova said they do not promise to win the first place, but will make everything possible to have a good performance. “We will do our utmost to win medals,” said athletics coach Alexandr Ganchenko. Another coach, Vladislav Mazur said he was glad that Vladislav Arventi will compete in taekwan-do, but is sorry for other good athletes who will not go to the competition.
The national team includes: Eugen Glushko and Doina Cravcenco (athletics), Daniil Svareshchuk (boxing), Alexandru Tiganu (kayak-canoe), Eugenia Tanasienco and Sergiu Golban (swimming), Vladislav Arventi (taekwan-do WTF), Olga Bliznet (table tennis), Iulia Leorda (wrestling), and Alexandra Marca (archery).
Moldova might also have a weightlifter and a shooter at the Olympics. The final list of competitors will be known on August 9.
