The public transport in Chisinau will be renewed and the electronic ticketing plan will be presented next week. The road markings will be of a high quality. According to mayor Ion Ceban, the documents for purchasing new units of transport are ready and the new vehicles could run in Chisinau this year already.
“We are ready to buy 100 buses, but everything depends on the decision of the Chisinau Municipal Council. The pool consists of 126 buses and 75% of them are in a deplorable state. Only about 30 of them can be used for two-three years more,” Ion Ceban was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Key Issue” on NTV Moldova channel.
As to electronic ticketing, the mayor said the conductors will not remain without jobs. A part of them will be transferred to posts of controllers, while a part to the parking lots that are to be built.
“About 10,000 parking places will be set up in the center of the capital city. Another 500 parking places will appear around the Park “La Izvor”. These are only some of our plans. The parking lots downtown will be for money. This is a difficult process that requires time,” stated Ion Ceban.
As to the high heat bills, he said the Chisinau City Hall has nothing to do with these.
“This is not within our remit. The actions of “Termoelectrica” contribute to the transfer of negative image to the City Hall. The compensations paid by the municipality to some of the citizens are our concern. We also want the people to pay less, but this depends on other executive bodies,” stated the mayor.
As to the protests mounted by minibus route operators in Chisinau, Ion Ceban said some of the business entities want to make a profit at the people’s expense, but the City Hall will not allow this to happen. The protests represent blackmailing aimed at the municipality.
