The District Election Councils in Chisinau and Balti municipalities breached the procedure of receiving documents for registering electoral competitors, political analyst Igor Botan said on Tuesday, April 24.
Botan referred to the objections lodged by a number of electoral competitors who accused the two councils of favouring the candidates of the ruling party.
In Botan’s opinion, there is a legal gap since it is not established the moment of starting to receive documents from electoral competitors just after constituting the governing bodies of the district election councils or at the least the next day.
More than one political party disputed at the Central Election Commission (CEC) and in court the fact that the Chisinau electoral regulatory agency (CECMC) had announced that the registration of documents would begin on April 17, but, in fact, the procedure started on April 13. They requested to resume the procedure, but CEC and the Centru District Court rejected the claims. In Balti, on the day when the registration of documents was announced, the electoral competitors found that the number 1 on the list had been “booked” for the candidate representing the Party of Communists.
