The early mayoral elections  in the municipality of Chisinau showed that the election campaign goals weren’t achieved and the population remained non-active because the stories told in the election campaign weren’t sufficiently attractive and captivating for them, director of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul” Igor Munteanu stated in a special program on ProTV Chisinau, IPN reports.

According to him, the turnout of voters was low because of the massive migration of the population. The people are not interested in the political life as the produced results are the same. “We tend to believe that Chisinau attracts a lot of people from other areas because the capital city provides more jobs and these are better paid. But these people who come to Chisinau have another agenda. They do not take an active part in the political life and are less loyal to the institutions that need elected mayors,” stated Igor Munteanu.

Director of the Radio Free Europe’s Moldovan Service Vasile Botnaru said the candidates should probably talk to the people in a simpler way and be more sincere with them. “I think the lack of sincerity made the people not to want to vote,” noted the journalist.

With 100% of the votes counted, the preliminary data show that the candidate of the PSRM Ion Ceban won 40.97% of the poll, while the common PPDA-PAS candidate Andrei Nastase - 32.12%. The two candidates will compete for the mayoralty of Chisinau in a runoff vote in two weeks. Independent candidate Silvia Radu gained 17.65% of the vote.
