Eight projects—four focused on preventing HIV infection and four on tuberculosis prevention among vulnerable populations with limited access to medical services—will be implemented in 2025 with funding from the Preventive Measures Fund of the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM).
The NGO Casa Speranțelor won the competition with its project "Prevention and Detection of Tuberculosis Among Key Vulnerable Populations with Limited Access to Medical Services in Șoldănești District." The initiative is valued at 397,000 lei. Contacted by IPN, the association’s administrator, Valentina Onica, stated that the project will run from February to December 2025. It will focus on investigating individuals from high-risk groups, such as migrants, active smokers, and people with limited access to healthcare.
The association collaborates with healthcare centers, with one of its main objectives being to inform vulnerable groups that tuberculosis is preventable and treatable. The project aims to screen 500 individuals.
Another winning project is from the NGO Initiativa Pozitiva, titled "HIV Prevention Through Basic Prevention Services for High-Risk Groups." It will cover 550 beneficiaries in the central region of the country, with a total value of 573,000 lei.
Contacted by IPN, Alina Cojocari, head of the Activities for People Living with HIV department within the association, stated that the project will focus on increasing awareness and education about the risks of drug use and unprotected sex. Prevention and treatment methods will be discussed, and sterile supplies—including syringes, alcohol wipes, and condoms—will be distributed. Individuals will have the opportunity to be tested for HIV, HCV, HBV, and syphilis. If a positive result is obtained, they will be accompanied to medical institutions for confirmation or further evaluation. The project targets key vulnerable groups, including injecting drug users and sex workers in the central region.
