A number of 112 accidents with victims occurred on the national roads so far this year. Vehicles with foreign registration numbers were involved in 20 of these. As a result of these accidents, 122 persons, 22 of whom were foreigners, were hurt, while eight persons died, the head of the General Police Inspectorate Viorel Cernăuțeanu stated in a news conference.
He noted that over 50,000 calls referring to the activities of the police were made to the 112 Emergency Services since this January. More than 16,700 calls have been made since the state of emergency was declared. The daily average of calls rose from 638 to 672 during the state of emergency. Over 140 units of transport and 3,500 employees are daily involved in patrol activities.
As many as 18,800 violations of the road traffic regulations, with 1,400 of these being committed by cars with foreign registration numbers, were recorded during the state of emergency. The surveillance cameras registered about 30,000 violations so far this year. These were mainly speeding, ignoring of the traffic lights and of road markings.
