Andrei Pavaloi, the vice president of the European Action Movement (MAE), told a news conference on Monday that during the last two years the Communist administration in Moldova tried to destroy the education system by initiating non-qualitative reforms like the promulgation of the Education Code, which still gathers dust in the drawers of the Ministry of Education and Youth, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We do not have a clear education reform and this is tragical for the students as there are not enough places in dormitories. Difficulties are encountered when holding the Baccalaureate exams at the end of the academic year. These problems must disappear now that the PCRM is no longer the ruling party,” Andrei Pavaloi said. Anatol Petrencu, the president of the MAE, said that the whole political class in Moldova must contribute to the remedying of the situation in the education system. “The consequences of the eight years of dictatorship cannot be sponged off during several days. The abuses and nondemocratic practices used by the PCRM continue today as well, when the teachers, parents and students try to overcome the barriers erected by the state institutions where Communists remained infiltrated,” Anatol Petrencu said. He also said that the Ministry of Education and Youth, through procedural schemes for issuing Baccalaureate diplomas, abusively hindered the high school graduates from continuing their studies at the universities of their choice, including abroad, and reduced the number of places at education establishments, limiting thus access to higher education. The MAE aims to channel the efforts so that the Moldovans live better. This must be the major objective of the democratic government, while the MAE will support all those who will work on this, compensating for the difficulties faced during the eight years of Communist rule, Petrencu said.
