The Ministry of Education and Research purchased 800 professional retraining courses for teachers which will be taught by the end of this year by lectures of the State Teacher Training University “Ion Creangă”. These are an opportunity for teachers to improve their professional qualifications. The teachers will also be able to learn one more subject for teaching, besides the basic one, Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun stated in a news conference, IPN reports.
The minister informed about the launch of the national program “Investing in Teachers” within which about 3,000 teachers will be trained at 50 educational institutions starting with the beginning of November until the end of this year.
“Investing in Teachers” program is different from what has been there until now. The courses will take place at educational institutions, starting from the needs of teachers, so as to bring about a change in the institution, not only in one teacher. The program is piloted this year to see if this new method works better that the previous methods,” stated Dan Perciun.
The minister reminded of the founding of the National Institute for Education and Leadership and the creation of a network of 1,000 mentors in general educational institutions. The mentors will help young specialists to integrate into the community and will also disseminate good practices through the system. A sum of 9 million lei will be allocated from the state budget next year for running the institute. Another €300,000 will come from the EU and UNICEF for creating and strengthening the network.
Dan Perciun also spoke about the lump sum payment adopted by Parliament last week – 5,000 and 3,000 lei for about 100,000 teachers and ancillary personnel of the educational system. Over 450 million lei will be allocated for the purpose. This is the largest lump sum paid to teaching staff in Moldova’s history on the teachers’ professional day. Also, the specific bonuses paid to teachers for grading, laboratory work and class management were raised from 25% to 50% and will start to be paid this year.
The teachers will no longer need to account for the money spent on teaching aids and to collect sales slips for each bought book. The relevant Government Decision is to be approved on November 1.
