Education Ministry launches National Institute for Education and Leadership

The National Institute for Education and Leadership will be launched on February 25, with the presentation of the concept of mentoring for the educational community of the Republic of Moldova, Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun announced at a press conference, IPN reports.

“From our point of view, the creation of this network of 1,000 mentors will help us disseminate, first of all, good practices in the system, reform the continuous training system in education and provide better support for young specialists who choose the teaching profession,” stated Dan Perciun.

The public institution was created in November. In the meantime, a director was hired. The position will be occupied by Viorica Andritski.

According to the minister, among the basic responsibilities of the institution are the continuous training of teachers from the entire education system and management of a network of 1,000 mentors. These people will work in educational institutions and will help the Ministry to address various problems that exist in the system, disseminating good practices, guiding their colleagues, helping them become better on different dimensions and, equally, playing an important role in supporting young specialists.

Among the topics that mentors will treat are the personal and professional development, combating and prevention of bullying, combating and prevention of violence in educational institutions.

By April, about 40 national trainers will be selected from among mentors. By September, the Ministry aims to have 1,000 mentors selected and trained. They will be chosen on a competitive basis. The process of selecting the entire network is to begin in May.

Minister Dan Perciun urges teachers to follow this Sunday’s event to know what will happen on the dimension that will contribute to increasing the quality of teaching in educational institutions.

The Institute has an approved budget of 9 million lei for 2024. Additionally, the entire network of mentors during the first nine months will be funded through a European Union project managed by UNICEF.
